Trek for Tigers

The Malaysian Conservation Collective (MyCC) runs conservation initiatives to protect the critically endangered Malayan tiger and restore habitats in the River Yu Ecological Corridor, a vital wildlife link between two major forests in Peninsular Malaysia.

Key Conservation Activities

• Anti-poaching surveillance: Volunteers join forest patrols to help monitor and deter poaching.

• Habitat restoration: Participants plant native trees to improve forest connectivity and wildlife habitats.

Trek for Tigers Programme

A citizen conservation programme that:

• Supports Malayan tiger conservation.

• Raises awareness of environmental issues.

• Benefits local communities and economies.

• Provides opportunities to learn from indigenous communities about conservation challenges.

Some of the other amazing wildlife that share the forest with the Malayan Tiger are the Leopard, Clouded Leopard, Dhole, Sunbear, Elephant, Tapir, Sambar, Gaur, Pangolin. You might spot signs of these animals from the claw marks, animal tracks, droppings and signs of foraging.

 Where we walk

Located 15km south of Taman Negara, Sungai Relau, Sungai Yu Tiger Corridor is the last linkage connecting the two largest forested landscapes in Peninsular Malaysia - Taman Negara National Park and the Main Range.

The new highway was elevated so that wildlife could cross underneath, but the construction severely damaged the habitat.

By engaging local communities and global citizens, SWAG together with MyCC looks to restore the forest and protect the area from poaching and encroachment.
