About the SWAG100 Challenge
The SWAG100 Challenge is a charity fundraiser organised by the Singapore Wildcat Action Group (SWAG) from 25 September to 25 October.
Participants have 31 days to walk or run a nominated distance between 10KM and 100KM.
As tokens of our appreciation, participants and donors stand a chance to win attractive gifts that have been sponsored by our corporate friends and supporters.
But most importantly - all funds raised go to the Malaysian Conservation Alliance for Tigers (MYCAT). Founded in 2003, MYCAT operates on the frontlines of tiger conservation. Among their many critical activities are:
- Expanding wildlife and habitat protection
- Fostering an organic and active conservation-focused community
- Protecting tigers from poachers
- Habitat restoration and reforestation

Why 100 Kilometres?
Dr. Kae Kawanishi, the general manager of MYCAT, has a dream: she wants to see 100 wild Malayan tigers roaming freely in Taman Negara National Park.
According to the latest survey, there are tragically fewer than 50 tigers in the national park, even though the area is able to support double the population as well as the prey that are needed. Dr Kae's dream inspired us to commit to running and/or walking 100 kilometers for 100 tigers.
Why 25 September?
On 25 September 2010, MYCAT organised the inaugural CAT Walk. It is one of the few citizen-driven programmes in the world where you can directly help protect wild tigers and their habitat.
CAT Walkers help by reporting on illegal activities, snares, and traps. Since 2010, over 250 snares have been removed by authorities at the Sungai Yu (Yu River) Ecological Corridor in Malaysia, thanks to CAT Walkers.
The SWAG100 Challenge was launched last year because CAT Walks were cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Read more about CAT Walks

Why Are All Proceeds Going To MYCAT?
Once a thriving native resident of Singapore and Malaysia, the Malayan tiger’s population has been reduced by more than 95% due to hunting, poaching, and habitat loss. When the last tiger in Singapore was shot in 1930, this iconic wildcat became extinct in our country. In Malaysia, there are fewer than 200 individuals left in the wild, which means the Malayan tiger is precariously close to extinction.
To reverse the decline, active monitoring of illegal activities in the jungle is desperately needed and this active patrol does not come cheaply: MYCAT needs US$100,000 annually to employ 50 men and women to patrol and restore key tiger habitats in and around the Sungai Yu Ecological Corridor, which lies to the west of Taman Negara National Park.
While COVID-19 has made face-to-face fundraising events impossible, we hope to count on the SWAG100 Challenge to help us meet our goal of raising US$15,000 to donate to MYCAT, and do our part in safeguarding the future for the Malayan tiger.
